For startups
HR software for startups
Capstan is HR software for startups: one complete system of record for the whole company, with the core HRIS and all fourteen modules free for up to twenty active people, no trial clock and nothing held back. Employees and contractors sit in one roster, equity is something your team can read for itself, and the software you start on is the software you scale on.
Every figure sits on the pricing page and nowhere else, because pricing is adjusted to your country and belongs in one place.
What a startup gets
-
The complete core, free for up to twenty
People and org, time off, attendance, onboarding and exits, documents and letters, workflows, self-service and reports, free for up to twenty active employees. It is not a trial and it does not expire.
-
Every module included, nothing held back
All fourteen modules are on every plan, the free one too. A plan changes only how many people you can carry, never what the software does, so you never hit a paywall mid-task.
-
Employees and contractors in one roster
A contractor is a distinct entity with its own engagement, kept outside employee headcount, so engaging one never uses up one of your twenty free seats or inflates your bill.
-
Equity your team can read for itself
Track the option pool, grants and vesting as effective-dated records, and let each employee see their own vested and unvested units and next vest date. It shows units, never a valuation we would be inventing.
-
Onboarding that actually finishes
Checklist templates tied to a start date, document collection and the workflows around a joiner, so nothing falls through when you are hiring two people a month with no HR team. The same machinery runs an exit.
-
An export that proves there is no lock-in
A full export in open formats is always available, including on the way out and on non-payment, and a Capstan export imports straight back. The record is yours, not a hostage.
Questions startups ask
Is the free plan really free, or a trial?
It is the complete product, all fourteen modules included, free for up to twenty active employees, with no clock and no expiry. There is no subscription behind it, so it cannot lapse. The only limit is the twenty active employees, which a paid plan lifts.
What happens when we pass twenty people?
The twenty-first active employee moves you to the paid plan, which carries your twenty free seats into it, so you are charged for one seat and not twenty-one, with no cliff at the boundary. Nothing about the software changes; the paid plan only lifts the cap. Every figure is on the pricing page.
Can we run employees and contractors in one system?
Yes. A contractor is a distinct entity with its own engagement, kept outside employee headcount, so you run both in one workspace on one audit trail, and engaging a contractor never uses a free seat or inflates your bill.
Do we need an HR person to run it?
No. The core is built to run itself for a small team: onboarding checklists that finish, leave and approvals straight from the notification, and self-service so people answer their own questions. The buyer is usually a founder or an operations lead, not an HR department.
Will we outgrow it?
The software you start on is the software you scale on. Every plan runs the identical product with all fourteen modules, so growing changes your headcount and your bill, never your feature set, and the full export means you are never locked in if you do decide to leave.
The complete core is free for your whole team, up to twenty. See it in one sitting.
