What is time to hire (and time to fill)?
Also known as: Time to fill.
Time to hire counts the days from a candidate first entering your process to that candidate accepting an offer, while time to fill counts from the day the role opened, so the two measure the speed of a candidate and the speed of the whole search.
The two are often confused and measure different things. Time to fill includes the time a role sat open before anyone applied, so it reflects sourcing and demand; time to hire isolates how quickly you move a candidate once they are in the funnel.
Both are calendar-day counts between dates, so they are easy to compute and easy to game, and neither has a universal target. A calculator reads the dates you enter; what a good number is depends on the role and the market.
