What is employee onboarding?
Also known as: Onboarding.
Employee onboarding is the process of taking a new hire from a signed offer to a productive team member: collecting documents, setting up access and equipment, and working through a checklist of first-day and first-weeks tasks so nothing is missed.
Good onboarding is mostly a tracked checklist tied to a start date, with an owner for each task. The HR system holds the templates, collects the documents, and records what is done, so a joiner has what they need on day one whether or not anyone remembered to chase it.
Onboarding is the mirror of offboarding, and a system that runs one usually runs the other on the same machinery. The point of both is that a predictable, repeatable process beats a founder improvising each time someone joins or leaves.
